Biography
After some thought, I have decided to forgo the impersonal autobiography style text here, and instead write candidly and informally.
As a photographer, I am still trying to find myself; that special something that makes my photographs stand out and are unique. While I hope that does not revolve around specializing topically, say as Ansel Adams, but instead would like to find myself taking a style of photo that could be considered mine.
At the moment though, I am content attempting to capture opportune moments as they arrive, knowing that through time a style will be tempered.
For good or bad, I have no formal education in fine arts or photography. In truth this most likely frees me from a mold handed down by the educational institutions as "this is what makes a fine image" or "these are the rules that make a fine image".
Living in Chicago has provided me with the opportunity to capture aspects of a growing city in motion. In 2007 I moved to Chicago, and shortly after invested in to a flexible digital camera to see if my lifelong interest in photography has waned. After reaching the outer boundaries of the camera, it was decided that photography is still in my blood, and have since been investing into the skills and equipment needed to further fulfill my visions.
All of the printing will always be done in-house by myself. While I understand that for other photographers there are many practical (and valid) reasons for not printing themselves, I personally see it as a loss of control. Over the years I have spent a lot of time in the print industry, and know that to control the output device is the ultimate control of the final product. It is rewarding to know that there will be no sacrifices or trade offs with an outside firm.
To bring back the topic of style, my initial interest was in doing night time photography, capturing a city in the dark hours as the nightlife comes out. This presents a unique set of challenges, and I am looking forward to exploring that more in the future; but as stated above I do not want to niche myself into a particular subject. It would be sad if I was only known as "that guy who does night time photos of Chicago".
